Memorial to Fisherman Lost at Sea to be Installed at John’s Pass Village

Madeira Beach, FL – The Outdoor Arts Foundation announced that on Sunday, April 29th, the long- anticipated "Florida Fishermen Lost at Sea" Memorial will be installed and dedicated to the hundreds of Central West Florida fishermen who have lost their lives over the years.

The event will take place from 6pm – 9pm and festivities will include music by SunzaBeaches, speeches by survivors, loved ones, leaders in the fishing community and a blessing by Church By the Sea.  The unveiling at sunset will take place in front of the Bell Tower and main entrance to the Johns Pass Boardwalk

The Florida Fishermen Lost at Sea Memorial has been a joint effort between the John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk Merchant’s Association, the Outdoor Arts Foundation and artist Robert Bruce Epstein.  According to Mark Hubbard of Hubbard’s Marina, "Many lives are lost every year with no memory for future generations to see and appreciate the ultimate price paid by these brave individuals. Our own Central West Florida fishermen deserve proper representation."

"A fund-raising campaign to build a fitting memorial to these many brave fishermen is almost at its end," Mark Hubbard adds. "Our goal for the Florida Fishermen Lost at Sea memorial was $50,000 and as of early March, a total of more than $40,000 has been collected, with a boost from profits at the Johns Pass Seafood Festivals and John Levique Days Festival at John's Pass Village."

To compliment the Memorial a website has been set up dedicated both to Central West Coast Florida fishermen who were lost at sea and to other devoted fisherman who have played important roles in the area's sport and commercial fishing industries; and, to those who died on shore.  Additionally, a special Information page for lost fishermen is available for anyone to supply details about a fisherman not currently listed on the Memorial site.
